Summary of Bulletin 30 of “Walking Together”

 

From P.1 to the first part of P.4 is a summary from Sr. Bernadette Shirahata titled “Welcoming the new year ~ to the members of Walking Together”, which covers recent activities.

Topics include : the situation in Lunsar with COVID-19, the reopening of schools (kindergarten from 9/22, and grade school, middle and high schools from 10/5), Sr. Bernadette Shirahata hospitalized due to Malaria and Typhus, volunteering by making handicraft since the Regional Mayor advised it was not safe to go to school until the COVID-19 situation settles, music classes beginning in October 3 times a week in kindergarten, 40 packages that “Walking Together” has sent in January had arrived in September, etc.

 

P.4 to the middle of P.5 is a report from Mr. Fusao Sekine (Father of Catholic Setagaya Church) called “Why? Now? Sierra Leone? Visiting a country I have no connection with – Before the Charity Concert”. In planning for a charity concert in December, Father Sekine expresses in a poem about how impressed he was of how the sisters worked for the people in Sierra Leone under difficult situations.

 

P.5 to the beginning of P.6 is a writing by Kadiatu Kargbo, a college student who is receiving educational support from “Walking Together”. She expresses her appreciation for the opportunity to study in college, and her hopes to help young people learn in the future.

 

P.6 to the middle of P.7, are voices from supporters.

HQ staff, Ms. Kyoko Okada’s “Thinking about Sierra Leone” follows on to page 8. She touches on how Sr. Rethisia Negishi and Sr. Shirahata’s encounter and their work, and the way Mr. Tetsu Nakamura of Peshawar-kai lived have something in common.
